Iconic architecture and the desert landscape were the inspiration for this Palm Springs property. The structure appears to levitate above massive boulders on the sloping topography of large rock outcroppings. Similarly, the designed landscape wanted to feel untouched and minimally disturbed. Drawing from the existing plant palette of the Chino Canyon site, the landscape blurs the edges between existing and new, utilizing a draught tolerant desert plant palette. Barrel cactus groupings offer a sculptural counterpoint to the architecture’s rectilinear geometry, as well as desert accents providing year-round seasonal interest. Palo verde and acacia trees strategically placed with groupings of creosote and other evergreen shrubs frame views and provide informal privacy screening throughout the site. And sometimes, you just need to get out of the way and let the desert do what comes naturally.
