Perched on a view lot in the Trousdale Estates neighborhood of Beverly Hills, the Carla Ridge residence landscape draws its inspiration from the grassy hillsides of the surrounding canyon. Working with a plant palette of perennial grasses, we enveloped the architecture with fountain grasses and sedges. Aloe and Agave accents are peppered throughout the meadow, adding year-round interest to the draught tolerant landscape. Existing Eucalyptus trees were preserved, and new bamboo planted to frame views east to downtown Los Angeles and West to the Pacific Ocean. Large olive trees became the focal point for a pair of sunken courtyards in the residence basement. Continuing with the grass theme at the pool deck, we chose perennials which naturally occur in marshes and stream beds, seamlessly connecting to the continuing meadow.
